Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 27, 2026

1. Overview

Awakly is built with privacy as a core principle. What your Mac is doing, and when, belongs to you. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle data when you use the Awakly app for macOS (“the App”) and this website.

2. Data We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit your personal data. The App has no account, makes no network requests of its own, and we run no servers that receive your data. Your settings, rules and session history stay on your Mac and are never sent to us.

3. Data Stored on Your Mac

The App stores your preferences, your automatic rules and your session history locally on your Mac, inside the App’s own sandboxed container. The session history covers the last 30 days: when each session ran, how long, what started it and, on battery, an estimate of the battery it used. It is recorded with or without Awakly Pro, so buying Pro shows the days before it too; with Pro you can see it, and clear it at any time, in Settings › History.

The App does not sync this data between Macs or to iCloud. Each Mac keeps its own.

4. What the App Reads on Your Mac

To start and end sessions for you, and to show what keeps your Mac awake, the App reads the following on your Mac. None of it leaves your Mac.

  • The names and running state of apps: whether an app you picked is open, in front, or presenting a slideshow. To tell a slideshow, the App checks whether a window covers a whole display; it never reads window titles or contents.
  • Other apps’ power assertions, the same list pmset -g assertions shows in Terminal.
  • Your Mac’s power source, battery level and thermal state, whether an external display or a VPN is connected, and how busy the CPU and network are. The App reads amounts of activity, never what an app or the network is doing.
  • For closed-lid mode: whether the lid is closed and whether any sound is playing, so it can tell when your Mac seems to be in a bag.

5. Permissions

The App asks for a permission only when you add a rule that needs it, and works without it otherwise.

  • Calendars, for a calendar rule: the App reads when your events start and end, and their titles to match the word you chose. Event details never leave your Mac.
  • Location, for a Wi‑Fi rule: macOS shares the name of your Wi‑Fi network only with apps that have location access. The App uses the name to match your rule and never stores where you are.
  • Notifications, to give you a heads-up before a session ends and to tell you when a safety limit ended one.

You can turn any of these off in System Settings › Privacy & Security, or in System Settings › Notifications.

6. Analytics and Tracking

The App includes no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track your usage, your rules, or what keeps your Mac awake. If you choose to share crash data with app developers in your Mac’s settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports, under Apple’s privacy policy. They help us fix bugs and contain nothing that identifies you.

7. Purchases

Awakly Pro is a one-time in-app purchase, processed by Apple through the Mac App Store. Your payment details are handled by Apple and are never accessible to us. The App checks your purchase with Apple on your Mac; no third-party service is involved, and we never learn who you are.

8. Third-Party Services

The App uses no third-party services or SDKs. Apple provides the Mac App Store, the purchase of Awakly Pro and, if you opt in, crash reports.

9. Website

Separate from the App, this website (awakly.app) uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits — nothing else, no ads. It is a privacy-first service that does not use cookies, does not collect personal information, and does not track visitors across sites. The site sets no cookies. It remembers the theme you pick in the footer in your browser’s local storage, which never leaves your browser, and it loads its fonts from awakly.app itself.

10. Children’s Privacy

Awakly does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. We do not ask anyone for names, email addresses, or any other personal details, and the App contains no advertising.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

12. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact us at support@awakly.app.
